{"id":2850,"date":"2022-07-07T15:33:47","date_gmt":"2022-07-07T19:33:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crfc-fcrc.ca\/?p=2850"},"modified":"2023-05-29T14:09:26","modified_gmt":"2023-05-29T18:09:26","slug":"call-for-nominations-to-the-board-of-directors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crfc-fcrc.ca\/en\/call-for-nominations-to-the-board-of-directors\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>June 2023<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Call for nominations to the Board of Directors<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) is an independent, not-for-profit funding organization. The CRFC seeks and secures resources to fuel the production, distribution, and sustainability of Canada\u2019s community audio broadcasters through dynamic funding programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our long-term goal is to ensure that community audio broadcasters are recognized as an essential part of the Canadian broadcasting system and are fully resourced and funded to strengthen the role of community content in the Canadian media landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CRFC is currently seeking nominations for positions on its Board of Directors. Elections will be held at the next Annual General Meeting in November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The full CFRC Board of Directors consists of nine voting directors and three non-voting ex-officio observers. Directors are nominated and elected by the CFRC Board of Directors and the CRFC membership. One voting director position is reserved for a representative of Canada\u2019s private broadcasters. Each of the three community radio associations also nominates an ex-officio director, who is usually their executive director. These directors are non-voting. The three associations are: Alliance des radios communautaires du Canada (ARC du Canada); Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires du Qu\u00e9bec (ARCQ); and National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA).Their role is to provide advice and expertise to the CRFC Board of Directors on community broadcasting issues. Ex-officio members do not participate in funding decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CRFC is seeking candidates with general experience, but particularly in any of the following areas: community development; broadcasting; arts, culture and entertainment; financial administration; legal issues; and, knowledge of the CRTC and Industry Canada regulations (related to broadcasting). Ongoing responsibilities of the directors include the effective management of the Fund, financial oversight, strategic planning, the creation of organizational policies and practices, oversight of grant programs, and effective governance.\u00a0 In addition, one of the goals of the Fund is to have a Board of Directors that is diverse in terms of geography and region, urban, rural and remote communities, gender, racial and ethnocultural identity, culture, youth, and more. Directors may not currently serve or be actively involved on the staff, management, board or volunteer team of a community or campus radio station or association. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Requirements\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Board Meetings:<\/span> Currently, the CRFC Board of Directors meets in person twice a year. There are also virtual meetings held approximately every quarter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Communications:<\/span> Email is the primary means of communication. Zoom is also used for virtual meetings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Travel:<\/span> The Board of Directors meets twice a year in Ottawa. Directors may be asked to travel for other purposes, such as meetings with key stakeholders. In such cases, the CRFC covers all travel and accommodation costs, and Directors receive a per diem for meals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Compensation:<\/span> Directors and committee members do not receive any compensation for their work as this is a volunteer board. However, they may be reimbursed for expenses related to their CRFC duties, such as travel and telephone expenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The applicant should be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">able to contribute on average 5 hours a month for meetings and committee work.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Energy, curiosity, desire to learn, collegiality, and commitment to the goals of CRFC;<\/li>\n<li>May include professional experience in broadcasting, community development, law and regulatory matters,\u00a0 administration, finance, arts, culture &amp; entertainment, community journalism, and board governance;<\/li>\n<li>Possesses a post-secondary degree or diploma from an accredited institution; or relevant educational experience;<\/li>\n<li>Can assist in determining the radio broadcasting needs of underrepresented, rural, and remote communities;<\/li>\n<li>Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in teams;<\/li>\n<li>A diverse background and life learning experiences; and<\/li>\n<li>Bilingualism is an asset, but not mandatory.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Community Radio Fund of Canada encourages inclusivity and welcomes submissions from individuals from underrepresented groups and equity-seeking groups including: First Nations, Inuit and M\u00e9tis communities; 2SLGTBQIA+; Black and People of Colour (BIPOC); and, people living with visible and invisible disabilities.
