The Youth Connection
CFUR-FM’s project aimed to connect the campus radio station, based at the University of Northern British Columbia, with its community. More specifically, the station wanted to connect with the youth of their community. Their project consisted in hosting a variety of events outside of the studio, putting new volunteers to work towards the creation of new programs, creating youth-friendly training documents and a youth-friendly music library, and strengthening their Summer Radio Camp.
A representative of CFUR-FM explains how the project was beneficial to the station. “The hosts also savor the opportunities to meet with the audience, get feedback, and strengthen their own ties to the community by using their platform to engage their audience on a stronger level.” The station believes that their efforts to connect to the community will result in more programming.
