Through the LJI program, we have been able to support the hiring of journalists at stations across the country. Collectively they serve parts of Canada which are underserved by all other media. Community radio has always maintained a commitment to connecting communities through sharing of local news and information. Given the ongoing closures of local newspapers and commercial newsrooms across the country, the need has never been greater for this sort or partnership.

Cooperation with the Canadian Heritage has been steadily growing ever since. In 2020 the Community Radio Fund of Canada was selected to distribute a 2 million dollar package to community stations who were immediately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in support of ongoing promotion and production of Canadian content via the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
