Call for nominations to the Board of Directors

The Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) is an independent, not-for-profit funding organization. The CRFC seeks and secures resources to fuel the production, distribution, and sustainability of Canada’s community audio broadcasters through dynamic funding programs.

Our long-term goal is to ensure that community audio broadcasters are recognized as an essential part of the Canadian broadcasting system and are fully resourced and funded to strengthen the role of community content in the Canadian media landscape.

The CRFC is currently seeking nominations for positions on its Board of Directors. Elections will be held at the next Annual General Meeting in November.

The full CFRC Board of Directors consists of nine voting directors and three non-voting ex-officio observers. Directors are nominated and elected by the CFRC Board of Directors and the CRFC membership. One voting director position is reserved for a representative of Canada’s private broadcasters. Each of the three community radio associations also nominates an ex-officio director, who is usually their executive director. These directors are non-voting. The three associations are: Alliance des radios communautaires du Canada (ARC du Canada); Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires du Québec (ARCQ); and National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA).Their role is to provide advice and expertise to the CRFC Board of Directors on community broadcasting issues. Ex-officio members do not participate in funding decisions.

The CRFC is seeking candidates with general experience, but particularly in any of the following areas: community development; broadcasting; arts, culture and entertainment; financial administration; legal issues; and, knowledge of the CRTC and Industry Canada regulations (related to broadcasting). Ongoing responsibilities of the directors include the effective management of the Fund, financial oversight, strategic planning, the creation of organizational policies and practices, oversight of grant programs, and effective governance.  In addition, one of the goals of the Fund is to have a Board of Directors that is diverse in terms of geography and region, urban, rural and remote communities, gender, racial and ethnocultural identity, culture, youth, and more. Directors may not currently serve or be actively involved on the staff, management, board or volunteer team of a community or campus radio station or association.
