The CRFC believes in a united, dynamic, and sustainable community radio sector.

Let’s work together to show what we do best!

All campus and community radio stations holding a broadcasting licence in accordance with CRTC public notice 2010-499 as well as the associations that represent them are eligible for CRFC membership.

The membership year runs from September 1 to August 31. Stations and associations do not have to be members of the CRFC to be eligible to obtain funding through CRFC programs.

Our list of members for 2024-2025 will be available soon!

Your membership allows the CRFC to ensure our contact information for your station is up-to-date. This way you won’t miss out on any upcoming funding opportunities or key information on programs and initiatives related to the Community Radio Fund of Canada

In the past we have charged $20 as a membership fee, but we will be doing away with the fee and offering membership at no cost. The CRFC has grown dramatically in recent years, and we want to ensure our members continue to help guide us into the future.

Among our recent accomplishments are:

  • Successfully lobbied for the renewal of the Local Journalism Initiative for the next three years.
  • Created new funding programs and initiatives for Indigenous broadcasters.
  • Successfully advocated with the federal government to have a robust definition of community broadcasting included in the new broadcasting act and lobbied to ensure community stations are included in the Online News Act funding.
  • We developed and are currently advocating for the creation of a $25 million national Community Radio Initiative to provide operational support and data to all licensed community, Indigenous, and campus radio stations.

The more stations who are members of the CRFC, the greater our ability to support and advocate for you on the national level. We work closely with your association representatives to ensure we are in alignment and we will continue to do so.

FAQ:
If I am not a member, does this impact my chances of getting funding?

Not at all. Anyone who holds a valid CRTC license and meets the criteria of the funding program is eligible to apply.  Funding is not connected to membership. See below for the benefits of membership.

Does my membership to my association count as membership to the CRFC?
In the last few years that was the case, but going forward, your membership to the NCRA, ARCC, or ARCQ will no longer count as a de facto membership to the CRFC.  There is no problem being a member of both.

Why is membership important?
For you, it will allow you to have a say in the development of our next strategic plan, it will also allow you to participate in the CRFC annual general meeting, to have a say in the membership of our board, etc.  For us, the more members we have the greater our ability to develop new funding programs and to attract new partners to support all stations in the sector.

Benefits of membership:

  • Receive notice of all meetings of members;
  • Participate, with a voice, at annual and special meetings of members;
  • Vote at annual and special meetings of members;
  • Submit proposals at annual meetings of members (as per the process described in Article 18 of the CRFC’s bylaws);
  • Elect candidates to the Board of Directors;
  • Utilize the various member services offered by the CRFC and be informed about the activities of the organization.
